Publisher’s Note:  David Schwoebel has allowed us to hear Dorothy Thrupp’s famous words in a fresh way by setting them to a new melody that captures the heart cry of her text. An especially appealing feature of his anthem is that the chorus of his new melody and the chorus of the standard hymn occur simultaneously, sometimes between keyboard and voice and sometimes between the vocal parts themselves. As you will find in any Schwoebel anthem, the keyboard writing is rich and beautiful.

Beautiful music and a poetic text. Terry York is a writer with tremendous insight into matters of the spirit, and this new lyric richly set by David Schwoebel is a fine example. From hushed whispers to dramatic crescendos of sound, the music cradles this profound text in a true duet of mind and heart. This piece is traditional, but with a touch of the contemporary, making it useful to many different churches. The Music of the Song is superb!

From the anthem’s flowing beginning to the commanding third stanza harmonization, David Schwoebel’s musical carriage wonderfully supports this fresh Richard Gillard contemporary text. Music is based on Beach Spring and incorporates an additional original melody on scripture from Mark 9:35 (ASV). Particularly appropriate as an expansion of the Gospel lessons during Epiphany. Reproducible pages for Oboe and Congregation included.
